Congratulations
Ms. Kyker and Ms. Wunderlich for presenting at the Maryland Association
of Nonpublic Special Education Conference “Laying a solid therapeutic foundation, while building young men’s futures.”
Our
Silver Oak Academy Therapist Ms. Kyker and Ms. Wunderlich presented a
workshop at the MANSEF (Maryland Association of Nonpublic Special
Education Facilities) conference to approximately 60 educators, social
workers and juvenile justice workers from the state of Maryland. The
workshop offered strategies on building rapport, gaining trust and
developing a therapeutic plan in order to reduce recidivism in an
adolescent residential setting. The title of the presentation was
“Laying a solid therapeutic foundation while building young men’s
futures.”
Using
Rite of Passage as a background we discussed the importance of
academics, vocational, athletic and aftercare services in helping to
build that solid therapeutic foundation.
There were many positive comments after the presentation.
One educator stated, “It was very insightful for the students that I teach.”
Another juvenile justice worker stated, “Very relevant info, it will help me in my profession.”
Good Job laying the foundation for Silver Oak Academy
