Silver Oak Students Give Back
On January 22, 2011, four students from Silver Oak Academy went to the Annapolis Lighthouse Shelter to serve a meal to their community. Before leaving the Silver Oak, the students took part in baking three cakes and preparing them so they could share with the clients at the shelter. The students enjoyed serving, talking and mingling with everyone who was there that day. On the way back, they expressed their enthusiasm about future opportunities to help others through community service. All four Silver Oak Academy volunteers shared their humbling experience with their peers when they arrived back on site.
There has been a call for community service in the United States. Silver Oak Academy students have answered this call and are committed to making a difference in their local and surrounding communities, as well as the lives of others, through community service. Some high schools have made it mandatory for students to complete community service/ volunteer hours prior to graduating. Silver Oak Academy students are finding the benefits of such work to be gratifying. Students are able to investigate different jobs in which they are interested and discover in the process that helping others can be very rewarding. Their skills, patience and kindness help others in need of services.
